The Merced City Council will hear a report on the recent Youth Forum and consider a median island safety ordinance at the Monday, Nov. 18, meeting.
The regular City Council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers on the second floor of the Merced Civic Center, 678 W. 18th St.
At Council’s direction, a Youth Forum was held earlier this month to gather comments from teens on the best way to communicate with the City Council. The results of that meeting will be shared with the Council and the Council will be asked for further direction.
Council also will be asked to consider an ordinance that prohibits soliciting people from using medians for any purpose except as a place to stop while crossing the street. There are concerns that the medians are being used as a place for solicitation and that poses safety hazards to pedestrians and drivers.
The Council will meet in closed session at 6 p.m. to confer with labor negotiators.
City Council meetings are streamed live on the Internet. A link to the live meeting is on the City’s home page at www.cityofmerced.org. The City will also add the Council video to YouTube for people that were unable to watch it live. These services are in addition to the live broadcast of the meeting on the Comcast’s Government Channel 96.
The Council agenda is posted online at www.cityofmerced.org and is available outside the chambers prior to the meeting. Request to Speak cards are available at the meeting or can be downloaded from the City's website. Cards must be turned in to the City Clerk in order for a person to be recognized by the Council.
