Local Hazard Mitigation Plan

While no one can predict or protect the City against every possible natural hazard, potential impacts can be anticipated and steps taken to avoid or reduce the harm they may cause.

The City is preparing a Local Hazard Mitigation Plan where potential natural hazards that threaten communities are identified such as flooding, earthquakes, fire, and fog.  The plan will also explain how these natural hazards would affect the community and then figure out the best way to save lives and reduce property damage in the event that one of these types of natural disasters occurs in Merced. By planning ahead we can save lives and prevent injuries!

This work is being supported by a grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and is a prerequisite to obtain future funds for construction of hazard mitigation projects, such as flood detention basins.

The public is welcome and encouraged to participate in the process and to comment on the draft Hazard Mitigation Plan during its drafting stages and prior to seeking final approval from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. To learn more about Hazard Mitigation Planning, or to submit comments, please use the links below.
