The Redevelopment Advisory Committee (RAC) is advisory to the Redevelopment Agency Commission, City Council, and staff on redevelopment policies and programs. The Committee is appointed by and responsible to the Redevelopment Agency Commission.
The RAC consists of twelve (12) members, who serve four-year terms, with a two-term limit.Of the members first appointed to the Committee, six shall be appointed to four-year terms and five shall be appointed to two-year terms. The five appointed to two-year terms shall be eligible for appointment for one additional four-year term.
The Redevelopment Advisory Committee shall meet the third Tuesday of each month at noon.
Members of the RAC must have direct interests in either the Gateways Redevelopment Project Area or Redevelopment Project Area 2. Neither Project Area will have more than six representatives on the RAC. “Direct interests” means that a Redevelopment Advisory Committee member must qualify on one or more of the following grounds:
- Reside within a Project Area.
- Own a business whose principal location is within a Project Area.
- Own property within a Project Area.
- Represent an organization, such as a non-profit, educational, health, or faith-based organization, which is located within a Project Area.
The Committee shall elect a Chairman and Vice-Chairman. The Committee shall meet monthly on a regular basis, and may schedule special meetings as needed at the call of the Chairman.
In its advisory capacity, the Committee will act on issues referred by the Redevelopment Agency Commission, or those originated by the Committee and referred to the Agency Commission. The Committee shall:
- Make recommendations to the Redevelopment Agency Commission on specific redevelopment projects.
- Advise in the development of sound redevelopment policies and programs.
- Evaluate and approve or deny applications for the Agency’s Commercial Rehabilitation Loan Program, Façade Rebate Program, and other programs as authorized by the Redevelopment Agency Commission.
- Participate in the development of the annual Redevelopment budget and work program.
