Property & Evidence

The Property and Evidence Division preserves and secures all evidence, found property and prisoner property for court presentation or until it can be returned to the owner or legally destroyed. This division also processes all of the District Attorney's discovery requests along with requests from outside agencies. The Property and Evidence Division maintains a 10,000 square foot warehouse which holds various types of evidence, including narcotics, vehicles, bicycles, skateboards and weapons. The division also maintains a 900 square foot evidence room where the evidence can also be stored. The evidence room personnel also maintain the evidence lab where the packaging and logging of evidence takes place. This division stores evidence collected by the Merced Police Department as well as evidence collected by the Merced Mariposa Narcotics Task Force (MMNTF). This division prepares evidence to be sent to the Department of Justice Crime Lab and the Stockton Police Departments Firearms Lab for forensic analysis.
