Green Waste Tips & Info...

Green Waste is any trimmings or leaves off of plants, trees or bushes in your yard as well as lawn clippings. Please DO NOT bag these items before placing them in your green can as this contaminates the load. The lid must be closed with no debris hanging out of or overflowing the can; this will help keep your neighborhood clean and ensure the driver can empty your can. Rinse your can out regularly to prevent smells and rinse on the grass to conserve water.

Only natural wood trimmed off of your trees is allowed in the green can. Your Christmas Tree cleaned of all ornamentation and tree stand can go in your green can, however it must be cut to fit with the lid closed. No processed or treated wood - i.e. furniture or fencing material - is allowed in the green can.

The cost for green waste is $4.69 per month (2012). Additional green cans are provided to residential customers at no additional cost. For more information on Refuse Rates click here.

If you have a gardener that hauls away your green waste, you may be considered for exemption from green waste services. You will need to call the Public Works office at 385-6800 or e-mail them at publicwks@cityofmerced.org to request exemption. You'll be required to provide your gardener's name and business license number.
