Green Waste Tips & Info...
Green Waste is any trimmings or leaves off of plants, trees or bushes in your yard as well as lawn clippings. Please do not bag these items before placing them in your green can. To keep the neighborhood clean and to ensure that the driver empties your green can, the lid must be closed with no debris hanging outside or overflowing the can. Rinse your can out regularily to prevent smells from accumulating. Rinse while on the grass to conserve water.
Only natural wood trimmed off of your trees should go in the green can. Your Christmas Tree cleaned of all ornamentation and tree stand can go in your green can, please chop it to fit with the lid closed. No processed or treated wood, ie furniture, or fencing material can go in the green can.
The cost for green waste is $4.42 per month (in 2010). Additional green cans are provided to residential customers at no additional cost. Additional containers must be used for no less than one year. For more information on Refuse Rates click here.
If you have a gardener that hauls away your green waste, you may be considered for exemption from green waste services. You will need to call the Public Works office at 385-6800 or e-mail them at publicwks@cityofmerced.org to request exemption by providing them with your gardener's name and business license number, which identifies them as a legitimate business in the City of Merced.
