California Redevelopment Law (CRL) requires that 20% of all tax increment recieved be used on creating high quality affordable housing.  The Redevelopment Agency of the City of Merced has actively participated in the construction of more than 885 housing units as of 2009. These homes have ranged from historic Victorian inspired single-family homes to urban loft units on Main Street. Projects have included both market rate and affordable housing units.
