Wind blows down trees, M Street closed
A section of M Street was closed this morning after four eucalyptus trees were blown over during an early morning wind storm.
Southbound lanes of M Streets from Ironstone Drive to Buena Vista Drive were closed before 8 a.m. It hasn't been determined when the road will be reopened.
'We are glad that no one was hurt by the falling trees,' said Assistant City Manager Stephanie Dietz. 'We apologize to all the people had their morning commute affected, but our crews are working as quickly as possible to open the road back up.'
The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for the area today. It reported wind gusts up to 53 mph at the Merced Regional Airport this morning.
Four trees were down along the M Street corridor and all of the Public Works Department tree crews and park workers were out this morning working to clear the roadway.
Childs Avenue also was closed this morning due to flooding from the rain and crews were working to clear that up.
The storm that came through Merced Wednesday and Thursday resulted in 15 trees being knocked down.
This report will be updated throughout the day.
