Council meets Monday to discuss maintenance districts, water
Maintenance districts, water plan on Council agenda
The prospect of raising assessments for maintenance districts and a consultant to update the urban water management plan are on the agenda for Monday night's Merced City Council meeting.
The Council will meet at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers on the second floor of the Merced Civic Center, (City Hall) 678 W. 18th St.
There are 10 maintenance districts that don't collect enough funds from property owners to provide the landscaping and storm drain services they are intended to provide. In order for the assessments to increase, ballots must be mailed to property owners to see if they favor the new charges.
If the property owners agree to the new assessments, then the service levels will be increased. If they don't agree, then the levels will remain unchanged. Five of the districts voted against increasing the assessments in 2008.
The Council also will be asked to hire Corollo Engineers to update the Urban Water Management Plan for a fee of $40,500. The state has new guidelines for the creation of the water plan that looks at the City's long-term water supply.
The water plan also addresses other water sources besides ground water, such as recycled water and surface water exchange with the Merced Irrigation District. A completed urban water management plan is required to be eligible for grants.
Dr. Joe Colletti will give an update on the Continuum of Care, a coalition of local government agencies and non-profit groups that have been working to end homelessness in Merced County.
There will be a closed session at 6:30 p.m. to confer with property negotiators.
City Council meetings are streamed live on the Internet. A link to the live meeting is on the City's web site at https://cityofmerced.legistar.com/Calendar.aspx. Videos of previous meetings can be found at that link, and are tied to each agenda item. Those services are in addition to the live broadcast of the regular meeting on Comcast's Government Channel 96.
The Council agenda is posted online at www.cityofmerced.org and is available outside the chambers prior to the meeting. Request to Speak forms are available at the meeting or can be downloaded from the City's website. Cards must be turned in to the City Clerk in order for a person to be recognized by the Council.
