Amgen Tour, special election on Council agenda  

Direction regarding the Amgen Tour of California and a ballot measure on Charter amendments are on the City Council agenda for its Monday night meeting.

The meeting will be at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers on the second floor of the Merced Civic Center, (City Hall), 678 W. 18th St.

On the agenda:

  • The Council is being asked to give direction on whether or not to commit funds, staff and other resources to host Stage 2 of the Amgen Tour of California in May. The major cycling event had been in Merced in 2009.

  • The Council is being asked to consider resolutions placing three measures to amend the City Charter on the March 3, primary ballot. Council is being asked to approve the ballot questions that would go before voters.

  • Also on the agenda are presentations from State Sen. Anna Caballero's office regarding the Young Legislator's Program and an update on the Boys and Girls Club and Summer Camp Program.


The Council will meet at 5 p.m. in closed session to confer with labor negotiators.

The meetings are streamed on Facebook Live on the City's Facebook, City of Merced. A link to the live meeting is also on the City's website at Videos of previous meetings can be found at that link, and are tied to each agenda item. Those services are in addition to the live broadcast of the regular meeting on Comcast's Government Channel 96.

The Council agenda is posted online at, outside the chambers prior to the meeting and 72 hours before the meeting at the City Clerk's Office. Request to Speak forms are available at the meeting or can be downloaded from the City's website. Cards must be submitted to the City Clerk in order for a person to be recognized by the Council. Hmong and Spanish translators are available at all regular Council meetings.

The City Council meets the first and third Monday of the month, except when there is a holiday, then it meets the following day.
