Applegate Park playground has its grand opening
Applegate Park grand opening
A grand opening for the new play equipment at Applegate Park was held Tuesday. Mayor Mike Murphy led a group of children in a countdown as a 'grand opening' banner was dropped and the playground was opened.
The previous playground equipment was removed after it was determined to be unsafe and replacement parts couldn't be obtained. The new play structure meets ADA standards and has a thick rubber surface below to allow access to all children it instead of the typical wood fiber.
The playground was rededicated to Danielle Martinez Reyes, the daughter of a City employee who died suddenly at a young age. During a brief ceremony, her parents, Kathleen Martinez and Art Reyes, unveiled the plaque.
