Rose garden, on the agenda Tuesday night
Rose garden, public facilities update on agenda
An update on the City's rose garden and the public facilities projects are among the items on the City Council agenda for Tuesday night.
The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers on the second floor of the Merced Civic Center, (City Hall), 678 W. 18th St. The meeting is usually held on the second Monday of the month but because of the holiday was postponed until Tuesday.
The City has a rose garden in Applegate Park that suffered during the drought, but also have been subject to vandals and theft after it was renovated. City staff will present Council with plans for replanting the garden, and improving the irrigation system to enhance the watering of the roses.
In addition, the historic Laura's Fountain in the park is leaking and staff is seeking direction on how to get it repaired.
Staff will be asking Council for direction on how to fund new public facilities in the City. There is a need for a new police headquarters, an additional fire station, improvements and expansion at the Public Works yard and renovations to park restrooms.
Staff will explain the possibilities of a public facilities ballot measure, and the timing of it.
Also on the agenda is a report on a local business preference policy that would give local vendors a preference under some circumstances when the City is making some purchases.
The Council will meet in closed session at 5 p.m. to confer with labor negotiators, discuss anticipated litigation and discuss employee employment of the City Attorney and Finance Officer.
