 Coleman Elliott sworn in as police officer

Coleman Elliott was sworn in as a police officer today by Acting Police Chief Christopher Goodwin.

Elliott, 28, completed the Fresno Police Academy as a trainee sponsored by the Merced Police Department. He holds a bachelor's degree in liberal studies from Stanislaus State.

An Atwater native, Elliott enjoys camping, backpacking and long-distance rifle shooting.

The Merced Police Department has 87 sworn officers and is budgeted for 97. The pay for police officers is $5,042 to $6,129 a month.

The Merced Police Department is hiring now. It is looking for both POST certified/lateral applicants and is also willing to put people through the police academy while paying them. For more information go to www.cityofmerced.org.
