New officer sworn in today

 Officer Julian Nava was sworn into the Merced Police Department today by Interim Police Chief Christopher Goodwin.

Nava, 23, had his badge pinned on him by his brother, Cristian Nava.

Nava is a graduate of Le Grand High School and holds an Associates of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from Merced College. In his off hours, he enjoys spending time with his family and friends, and taking spontaneous road trips. He also enjoys coaching baseball and football.

The Department now has 89 sworn personnel with 97 positions approved in the budget, including the police chief.

The position of police officer pays $60,507.20 - $73,548.80 a year.  The City is currently recruiting for both police officers and police officer trainees.  Trainees can earn between $39,187.20 - $47,632.00. More information on the jobs can be found at the City's website, www.cityofmerced.org.
