Veterans Memorial Bridge dedication ceremony Nov. 11
Veterans Memorial Bridge ceremony Nov. 11
A dedication/re-opening ceremony for Veterans Memorial Bridge will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11 on the bridge at M Street and Bear Creek.
The bridge repair work was part of a $2.7 million project. The M Street repairs stretched over the last seven months and traffic was reduced to two lanes during construction. Pavement and sidewalks were replaced and railings will be installed on the bridge, along with erosion control work that was performed beneath the structure. In honor of the bridge's designation as Veterans Memorial Bridge, three flagpoles were added to both sides of the structure.
Local veterans will raise U.S. flags over the bridge for the first time as part of the ceremony.
The ceremony will include the unveiling of the new street signs that will honor local veterans who died in service to their country. The signs will be put along the cross streets to M Streets, which has been designated and given the honorary name Veterans Boulevard by the City Council.
People attending the event are asked to park along 25th street or in Applegate Park.
The City is also working on the G Street Bridge. That work is not as extensive and the pavement work is expected to wrap up by the end of this month.
