Venus Rodriguez named Interim Finance Director
Venus Rodriguez has been appointed interim Finance Officer by the Merced City Council. The appointment was made Monday night following a closed session interview.
Rodriguez replaces Assistant City Manager Stephanie Dietz who filled in after Brad Grant retired from the City after more than three decades as Finance Officer.
'The City Council has added an ace to the lineup who can deliver for the team everyday,' said City Manager Steve Carrigan. 'I'm really looking forward to working with Venus as the interim Finance Director. She has been great to work with on the budget and other projects. She's creative, reliable and has great people skills. '
'We have a great team in the Finance Department and I'm excited to step up in this capacity for the City,' said Rodriguez. 'I have been with the City of Merced a long time, worked in many of the finance functions, and I'm ready for the challenge.'
Rodriguez, 41, has been serving as interim Deputy Finance Officer since March, replacing Teri Albrecht. She oversees the day-to-day operations of the Finance Department including accounts payable and receivable, grants and budget. She ensures the Department follows standard accounting practices and proper internal controls.
In her current job, she provides technical guidance to City departments and the purchasing supervisor and presents financial information to the City's committees. She also coordinates, monitors and reviews the annual City audit with the auditors.
Prior to that Rodriguez served as an Account III for 11 years where she created, implemented, reported on and monitored the City's annual budget. She also supervised City staff in grants, Community Facilities Districts, Development Services and Maintenance Districts.
Rodriguez started with the City in 2001 working in the Public Works Department as an Account Clerks III. She then moved to the Finance Department as an Accounting Technician and later an Accountant I/II.
She began her career with the City of Watsonville as a Senior Accounting Assistant-Bilingual in 1999, providing customer service along with handling invoices, cash and accounts receivable. She later was promoted to an Accounts Technician for Watsonville where she handled the ledgers, reconciled daily bank accounts and prepared quarterly gas and sales tax reports.
She holds a bachelor's degree in business/accounting and master's degree in business administration from the University of Phoenix.
Rodriguez and her husband, Eddy, have four children, Eddy, Anisha, Alexis and Ryan.
In her spare time she enjoys running, reading, and traveling.
The position pays $130,706.88 to $158,875.08 annually.
