Budget hearing, apartment complex on agenda

A public hearing on the City's budget and a proposed apartment complex are on the  City Council agenda for Monday.

The regular City Council meeting will be held at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers on the second floor of the Merced Civic Center, (City Hall), 678 W. 18th St.

The $218,424,029 budget includes $41,869,459 for the General Fund. The budget is  online for public review. A public workshop was held last month. That followed three town hall meetings and a priority session before the budget was developed.

The budget serves as the blueprint for the City for the fiscal year running from July 1, 2017 through June 30, 2018. Monday night there will be an opportunity for Council and the public to comment on the budget. It is scheduled for adoption at the June 19 meeting.

Also on the agenda is a public hearing on a 225-unit apartment complex and 6,600 square foot commercial building at Yosemite Avenue and Lake Road.

The project would include 15 three-story buildings with 2, 3, and 4-bedroom units on the 17.25 acre site. There would be a total of 705 bedrooms on the property, along with an outdoor recreation area, a dog park, clubhouse and an onsite bus stop. There would be 652 parking spaces for the residents.

The Council will meet in closed session at 5:30 p.m. to confer regarding existing litigation.

City Council meetings are streamed live on the Internet. A link to the live meeting is on the City's web site at https://cityofmerced.legistar.com/Calendar.aspx. Videos of previous meetings can be found at that link, and are tied to each agenda item. Those services are in addition to the live broadcast of the regular meeting on Comcast's Government Channel 96.

The Council agenda is posted online at www.cityofmerced.org and is available outside the chambers prior to the meeting. Request to Speak forms are available at the meeting or can be downloaded from the City's website. Cards must be turned in to the City Clerk in order for a person to be recognized by the Council.
