City Council meets Monday night
Public hearing, police HQ funding on Council agenda
A public hearing on a sidewalk easement and funds for a police headquarters property are on the agenda for Monday night's Merced City Council meeting.
The Council will meet at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers on the second floor of the Merced Civic Center, (City Hall) 678 W. 18th St.
A public hearing will be held regarding the abandonment of an old sidewalk easement at 3172 M Street where a 15,237-square foot office building is under construction. The easement will be used for a bus turnoff and shelter. A sidewalk will be constructed along the existing public right-of-way.
The Planning Commission unanimously approved abandoning the old easement in February.
Staff is requesting appropriation of $30,000 for the police headquarters site at 669 E Yosemite Ave. The funds would be used for appraisal services, general plan amendment and other services needed to prepare the property for sale.
The City had bought the Yosemite Avenue property for a new police headquarters but subsequently a decision was made to locate the headquarters at 3033 G St., the Merced Sun-Star site.
The Council will meet in closed session at 5:30 p.m. to discuss anticipated litigation and existing litigation.
City Council meetings are streamed live on the Internet. A link to the live meeting is on the City's web site at https://cityofmerced.legistar.com/Calendar.aspx. Videos of previous meetings can be found at that link, and are tied to each agenda item. Those services are in addition to the live broadcast of the regular meeting on Comcast's Government Channel 96.
The Council agenda is posted online at www.cityofmerced.org and is available outside the chambers prior to the meeting. Request to Speak forms are available at the meeting or can be downloaded from the City's website. Cards must be turned in to the City Clerk in order for a person to be recognized by the Council.
