Lights On After School Will Feature Early Education Parade
From: Nathan Quevedo
Media and Communications Officer
Merced County Office of Education
Lights On Afterschool, which is celebrated in thousands of communities across the nation, is scheduled from 5 - 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 22 in Downtown Merced.
Each October, millions of Americans in thousands of communities across the nation celebrate expanded, after school learning programs that keep kids safe, inspire them to learn and help working families.
This family event will feature students performances, games, prizes and a costume contest at 7:15 p.m.
Lights On will also highlight the importance of early education with a parade featuring some of our youngest students.
The Lights On Afterschool celebration will be held in conjunction with Merced County Local Child Care & Development Planning Council and will feature an early education parade.
The parade begins promptly at 6 p.m. with the formation area on K and Main Streets. This area will be closed to traffic starting at 1:30 p.m.
This is a walking parade, and while wagons and strollers are recommended for younger children, no motorized means of transportation will be permitted.
The parade will be held rain or shine.
