City swimming program gets extended

The City's recreational swimming programs will get extended this year, with weekend swimming offered at the McNamara Pool through the month of August. The weekend swimming will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays until Aug. 30.

'We wanted to try it out since the weather is still warm,' said Recreational Supervisor Joey Chavez. 'Kids will be back in school, but they will still want to swim on the weekends.'

Normally all swimming programs are ended by the start of the school year.

This is the last week of regular recreational swimming, with the McNamara Pool, 1040 Canal Street, open from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. The regular cost of swimming is $1 for youth and $2 for those 18 and older.

The Merced Satellite Rotary Club has continued to donate funds to cover the cost of Free Friday Swimming at the McNamara Pool

The City will also have Golden Valley High Pool (2121 E. Childs) open for rec swim from 3 to 6 p.m.  Saturday in cooperation with the Merced Union High School District. The cost is $1 for youth and $2 for adults. This is the last day Golden Valley pool will be open because it will be busy with student activities.

There is free adult swimming at McNamara Thursday from 6 to 7:30 pm. and at Merced High School pool, (205 W. Olive) from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday. There is no charge for the adult swimming while the City gets the program started as part of its H.E.A.L City program (Healthy Eating Active Lifestyle).

The swim programs are offered through the City of Merced Parks and Recreation.
