4th of July Fireworks in the City of Merced

Merced, CA --  With 4th of July coming up, The City of Merced Fire Department wants everyone to have a fun and safe celebration.  With the overwhelming dry conditions due to the drought, it is very important that you use the fireworks in a safe manner.  Please keep this in mind when lighting fireworks.

  • Do not ignite fireworks near or in dry grass or next to any other combustible materials.

  • When lighting fireworks, make sure to have a fire extinguisher and/or a garden hose nearby.  Make sure the fireworks are completely cool before placing in a trash receptacle.

  • Only fireworks with the 'California State Fire Marshal Seal' are allowed to be purchased, possessed or used from June 28th at 12 noon - July 6th at 12 noon.

If you are found with illegal fireworks, an administrative citation may be issued, which includes a $1,000 fine.  Some examples of illegal fireworks are any altered safe and sane fireworks, Cherry Bombs, Bottle Rockets and Roman Candles.

If you see any illegal fireworks please call (209) 385-6830 and leave a message.

The City of Merced Police and Fire Departments will be patrolling the city during the firework season.  The City of Merced Fire Department would like to thank everyone for doing their part in keeping our community safe.  Have a happy and safe Independence Day.
