Merced City Council to consider districting committee appointments

The Merced City Council will consider appointments for the Districting Advisory Committee and also one for the Planning Commission at its Monday meeting.

The Council will meet at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers on the second floor of the Merced Civic Center, 678 W. 18th St.

In November 2014 voters approved Measure T creating a district election process for the City Council. An Independent Districting Advisory Committee will draw up the boundaries for those districts and submit them to the City Council for approval.

The League of Women Voters has reviewed 39 applications from people interested in being on the Committee. They have submitted a list of seven candidates to the Council for consideration. If Council doesn't approve that list of candidates, the League has an alternate list of candidates for consideration.

The Council will interview Misty L. Compton and Kirpal Singh Grewal for one seat on the Planning Commission during a 6 p.m. study session. The seat opened up when Nathan Mackin moved out of the City.

A closed session will follow the study session for the performance evaluation of the city manager.

City Council meetings are streamed live on the Internet. A link to the live meeting is on the City's home page at The City will also add the Council video to YouTube for people that were unable to watch it live. These services are in addition to the live broadcast of the regular meeting on Comcast's Government Channel 96.

The Council agenda is posted online at and is available outside the chambers prior to the meeting. Request to Speak forms are available at the meeting or can be downloaded from the City's website. Cards must be turned in to the City Clerk in order for a person to be recognized by the Council.
