Council meets on Tuesday due to holiday

Development, tax commission on Council agenda

 Plans for a mixed use development in North Merced and an ordinance creating a tax transparency commission are on the City Council agenda for its Tuesday night meeting.

The regular meeting will be at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers on the second floor of the Merced Civic Center (City Hall), 678 W. 18th St.

On the agenda:


  • Council will consider a request to make a change to the general plan to allow a mixed use development on 21.5 acres at Yosemite Avenue and G Street that would allow a hotel, medical buildings, multi-family housing, fast food and other uses.


  • Council will consider an ordinance to create a tax transparency commission that would consolidate all current and future tax oversight bodies into one commission.


  • Council will consider an agreement to use $250,000 in Community Development Block Grant funds to make necessary sidewalk, sewer and water repairs at Gateway Terrace II apartments.

 The Council will meet at 5:30 p.m. in closed session to confer with labor negotiators and for existing litigation.

The meetings are streamed on Facebook Live on the City’s Facebook, City of Merced. A link to the live meeting is also on the City’s website at Videos of previous meetings can be found at that link, and are tied to each agenda item. Those services are in addition to the live broadcast of the regular meeting on Comcast’s Government Channel 96.

 The Council agenda is posted online at, outside the chambers prior to the meeting and at the City Clerk’s Office 72 hours before the meeting. Request to Speak forms are available at the meeting or can be downloaded from the City's website. Cards must be submitted to the City Clerk in order for a person to be recognized by the Council. Hmong and Spanish translators are available at all regular Council meetings.

 The City Council meets the first and third Monday of the month, except when there is a holiday, then it meets the following day.
