Commission to hear from youth Monday
Ways to get the voice of youth heard will be discussed at the City of Merced Recreation and Parks Commission at 5:30 p.m. Monday, July 22. The Commission wants to hear the ideas from youth at the meeting.
The structure and requirements of different youth councils and commissions in the region have been presented at previous meetings. Some groups focus on making policy recommendations, others serve to organize teen events. The commission and councils in the region have a range of requirements for membership -- some are exclusively for city residents, some require members to have a certain grade point average and others accept all applicants.
After hearing from the youth and other members of the public, the Commission is considering making a recommendation to the City Council on whether a youth council or commission is necessary, and if so, what would it look like.
Prior to the regular meeting, the Commission will hold a workshop on commissioner’s roles and duties at 4:30 p.m. Monday.
The Commission meets in the City Council Chambers on the second floor of the Merced Civic Center, 678 W. 18th St.
