The City of Merced offices will be closed for observance of Christmas, Wednesday, Dec. 25 and New Year’s Day, Wednesday, Jan. 1.

Trash collection for ALL City residents will be delayed for one day because the landfill will be closed. People with refuse collection on Wednesday need to have their canisters out Thursday morning, and those with Thursday collection days need to have their containers out Friday.

People can dispose of their natural Christmas trees in their green container. Trees placed at the curb WILL NOT be collected!

Trees used to be collected on the streets years ago, but that was back in the day when Santa smoked a tobacco pipe.

Artificial trees need to be taken apart and put in the trash can.

Real Christmas trees should be placed in the green container when:

ü  All ornaments have been removed, including tinsel and the tree stand.

ü  Cut into segments of no longer than 4 foot each.

ü  Do not put it in the green container if it has flocking or treatment.

ü  Christmas trees should be placed in the gray container if flocked or treated.

ü  Please make sure the lid closes; cans that are overloaded will not be emptied.

ü  Trees should NOT BE BURNED in fireplaces. This can be dangerous!
