Free concert May 3 celebrates Merced's 125th birthday
Grab a lawn chair, bring your appetite and head down to Courthouse Park for some musical fun and entertainment to celebrate the City of Merced’s 125th birthday with a free concert. It starts at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 3 in historic Courthouse Park, M and 20th streets.
The concert in the park promises lots of fun with music ranging from classic rock, rock, Hispanic, blues, to indie, folk and more. Buster Blue, La Sonora Dinamita De Mina Vazquez, Mike Hammar and the Nails and Crystal Syphon are the headliners, with loads of local bands to fill in the musical gaps.
There will be picnic-style foods available for sale by the Merced Lions Club. Playhouse Merced will have a beer garden hosted by Budweiser and Tioga Sequoia Brewing that also will serve Vista Ranch and Cellars wine.
The concert is a family-friendly event, and organizers encourage people to bring a chair, blanket or beach towel to sit out and enjoy the music from 4 to 10 p.m.
The Concert in the Park is the second of three events celebrating the founding of Merced in 1889. A birthday party at the Merced Theatre was held April 1 to commemorate the date the City was incorporated and Mercy Gulch Days will be recreated in September in Downtown Merced to bring back the feelings of the Old West.
