Merced Among Top Cities on the Rise in California
NerdWallet considers population, employment and income growth
San Francisco, CA (June 5, 2014) – NerdWallet, a consumer advocacy website, recently conducted a study to find the fastest-growing cities in California – and Merced ranked tenth.
To find the fastest-growing cities in California, NerdWallet evaluated 325 cities, towns and census-designated places and examined the following variables:
· Population growth
· Employment growth
· Income growth
“Merced’s strong population and income growth helped support the city’s ranking on our list,” NerdWallet analyst Maggie Clark said.
This San Joaquin Valley city saw a population growth of 6.6% and median income growth of 18.8% from 2009 to 2012. This growth in income means the median earnings for full-time, nonseasonal employees increased to $39,041 during this period. Retail, education and health care are the most common occupations for residents, according to census data. This year marks the city’s 125th birthday.
Other places in the Top 10 include Coronado, San Ramon, Beverly Hills and Saratoga. See the full study here.
