On November 7, 2007, the Planning Commission held a public hearing to consider adoption of the South Merced Community Plan and EIR and recommended approval to the City Council by a unanimous vote. The City Council held public hearings on the project on December 3, 2007 and on January 22, 2008; and the Community Plan and Final EIR were adopted by unanimous vote by the City Council on January 22, 2008. The South Merced Community Plan will be used to guide future urban development in the area, including a land use map, circulation plan and development of policies on land use, mobility, open space, housing and infrastructure. The South Community Specific Plan can be downloaded by visiting the "Documents and Handouts". (Bound copies of the Plan are available for $15.00 or a CD is available at no charge at the Planning Division offices at 678 W 18th St, Merced.) The Plan covers the area bounded by Childs Avenue to the north, Dickenson Ferry Road/Mission Avenue on the south, Highway 99 on the east and West Avenue and the Merced Municipal Airport on the west. Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC)
The role of the South Merced Community Plan CAC extended throughout the entire planning process and had many opportunities for input. The roles and duties of this committee was to work with City Planning staff and their consultant in an advisory capacity to prepare a land use map, circulation plan and associated policies focused on land use, mobility, open space, housing and infrastructure. . The committee met an average of once a month through January 2007, after which the committee disbanded.
South Merced Strategic Plan (2004)
