Suburban House Affordable and Fair Housing

  • No homes were purchased with NSP funds to add to existing NSP stock seven (7) homes were rehabilitated, and four (4) homes were sold.
  • The Merced Housing Division provided assistance to four (4) income eligible households in the community with financial assistance with rehabilitating their property or purchasing a property.
  • The Merced Housing Division provided five (5) First Time Home Buyer down-payment assistance to income eligible households.
  • The Merced Housing Division provided assistance to ten (10) income eligible households in the community with financial assistance with rehabilitating their property or purchasing a property.
  • The Merced Housing Division provided $25,000 in HOME funds to Project Sentinel for the Merced Fair Housing program. The program provided 45 Fair Housing Workshops with a total of 152 attendees.
  • The Merced Housing Division provided $38,000 for administration of the Continuum of Care (CoC) program and monitoring/coordination of the 10-Year Plan to End Homelessness.

2015 Grant Recipients

  • People in an office talking to a boyMerced Lao Family Community received $8,132 to provide to engage at-risk youth by engaging them in positive and healthy after school cultural activities to ensure they are participating in positive outlets. This program was successful in training 49 individuals. Initially, their goal was to engage 60 youth, they were able to achieve 82% of their goal.
  • The Merced County Rescue Mission received $7,000 to provide a warming center in the winter and wet weather months. The center was opened during February and March for a total of 60 days. The center provided a warm place for 360 clients.
  • Healthy House received $4,000 to provide senior citizens assistance with understanding medical forms, the community’s transportation system, and setting up medical appointments. This program was successful in educating 45 senior citizens with chronic medical illnesses.
  • COVE received $10,000 to provide training for adults that are dealing with the on-set of blindness. At least two individuals would be trained per session. This program was successful in training 26 individuals dealing with the on-set of blindness.
  • The Potter’s Place received $12,000 to provide Job Training to individuals. This program was successful in training 16 individuals. Initially, their goal was to provide job training to 20, they were able to achieve 80% of their goal.
  • The Isiah Community Project received $6,710 to setup a computer lab for youth residing in South Merced. The lab would consist of 8 computers with 2 printers. Organization will need to track age of youth being served. This program requested an extension to allow for additional time for proper setup of the computer equipment. Initially, their goal was to provide teach or tutor 50 students. They were able to achieve 15% of their goal.

City Infrastructure Projects

  • Road constructionThe Housing Division funded $103,438 to make improvements in the public right of way and at public facilities to remove barriers to accessibility. This will consist of removal of physical barriers and establishment of accessible paths of travel to City-Owned Sidewalks. These are surface lots in the business district.
  • The Housing Division funded $592,575.63 for a water main replacement project was selected based upon the City's Water Master Plan for line replacement. Based upon the age and poor quality of the water line it was determined that this project would meet the criteria for improving City services to eligible CDBG neighborhoods.
