In line with announcements made by the President, the Governor of California, and City of Merced officials, the main lobby to the Merced Police Department will be closed to the public starting at 5:00pm on March 17th due to COVID-19 for precautionary measures. Providing immediate and quality service to the public is our primary goal. The information provided below explains how we will serve you during this time.

Tow Releases: Please call the Records Division first to determine if your vehicle is releasable at this time. If it is deemed releasable, Records will schedule an appointment Monday-Friday 9 am - 4 pm for you to come in. Applicable fees will be collected
Copies of Police Reports: To request a police report(s) call the Records Division at one of the numbers listed above or email your request to firstname.lastname@example.org. Copies of reports will be sent electronically via e-mail or fax once right to receive the report has been established. Report fees will be waived during this time.
Filing a Police Report: Call 209-385-6912 to request an officer, submit on line via the city website (https://merced.seamlessdocs.com/f/OnlinePoliceReport), or at the police department by using the phone on the wall outside the front door (must wait outside).
Citation Sign Off: Use the phone on the wall outside the front door to contact police personnel (must wait outside or sit in vehicle out front - provide police personnel with vehicle description) to request an available officer.
Repo Releases: Call the Records Division first to verify if the repossession was reported to our agency. If the vehicle is deemed a Merced Police repossession Records will schedule an appointment Monday-Friday 9 am - 4 pm for you to come in. Applicable fees will be collected.
Property Releases: Call 209-388-7841 to schedule an appointment to pick up property.
Dog Licensing: 209-385-4751
Requests for new or renewing dog licenses will be handled by mail.
Required Documents Include:
Renewal notice or new application
Current rabies certificate
Proof of age of the owner or proof of spay/neuter is required to receive discounted pricing.

The following types of Police Reports involving no evidence and no suspects can now be filed online!
- lost property
- thefts from a vehicle
- petty theft: stolen credit cards, checks, etc. (total value loss less than $950)
- grand theft over $950
For your convenience, a public computer is available in the lobby of the main police station on M St. If you need assistance, please contact a clerk at the reception window.
